More European countries halt the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine following new reports of increased blood clot side effects
Last Thursday, Denmark, Norway, Iceland suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine “over concerns about patients developing post-jab blood clots.” At the time, the vaccine manufacturer and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) insisted the vaccine was safe.
Now, the EMA said they’re going to reexamine data related to blood clots in patients who received the vaccine as Germany sees increased blood-clot risk. A number of other EU nations including Germany, France, Italy, and Spain have also halted the use of AstraZeneca vaccine after a 49-year-old woman in Austria died of multiple thrombosis.
Earlier today, Spain’s La Vanguardia newspaper reported that the Spanish government will also halt AstraZeneca jabs until further review. The United States is also watching the development as it unfolds.
As fears about the AstraZeneca vaccine’s side-effects intensify, the United States is beginning to doubt the AstraZeneca vaccine. According to a report from Bloomberg, an independent panel is reviewing the AstraZeneca trial data. If all goes well, the vaccine could receive its US emergency approval in about a month.
Meanwhile, a high number of Europeans are saying they would prefer an alternative to the AstraZeneca vaccine.
