ChargePoint partners with Apple to integrate EV charging information with Apple’s CarPlay infotainment system
We wrote about ChargePoint back in September after the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network filed to go public at a $2.4 billion valuation. Today, ChargePoint announced it is partnering with Apple to integrate a wide range of EV charging information in Apple’s CarPlay infotainment system.
Apple CarPlay is a smarter and safer way to use your iPhone in your by allowing you to stay focused on the road. CarPlay enables a car radio or head unit to be a display and a controller for an iOS device. The infotainment system is available on all iPhone models beginning with iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1 or later. You can also get turn-by-turn directions, make calls, send and receive messages, listen to music when you connect your iPhone to CarPlay.
EV drivers will get hands-free access to such information like the location and status of charging stations on ChargePoint’s mobile app on the CarPlay cockpit display screen. The app also will enable drivers to navigate to the nearest charging station and start a session, as well as ascertain the speed of the charger, cost, availability, and plug type.
