Ovation launches validation tool to ease regulatory burden of clinical laboratory teams; also raises $3M in new funding
Ovation, a tech startup that provides data and operations solutions to researchers, scientists and labs throughout the life sciences industry, today unveils a revolutionary new validation tool for clinical laboratories called Automated Systems Validation (ASV). ASV allows laboratories to automate their computer system validation each time a new iteration of the software is released, removing a painful regulatory burden from the lab. In addition to the launch, the company also announced a $3 million of additional funding and significant expansion of its Product and Clinical Affairs teams.
Founded in 2009 by Barry Wark and Winston Brasor, the Boston, MA-based Ovation offers researchers cloud based storage for data related to experiments and analyses that enables easy collaborations within and between labs, and technology that allows researchers to describe and visualize the relationships between their data. Its offering for service labs in the precision medicine space is a first-of-its-kind solution that merges training records, document management, and sample tracking in an easy, cloud-based application.
“Automated Systems Validation is an innovative and powerful approach to computer system validation that will help our customers to remain up-to-date with all of our technological advances, helping them deliver the highest quality of patient care. Computer system validation has traditionally been a time-consuming process that distracts lab staff from day-to-day operations. With the release of ASV, we’ve eliminated the time and distraction of manual system validation in clinical labs,” said Barry Wark, Chief Executive Officer at Ovation.
Ovation also announced the addition of $3 million in funding led by Madrona Venture Group, on the heels of the Series A raised in 2019. Ovation will use this funding to expand Product and Engineering teams, furthering the vision of enabling molecular diagnostic labs to lead the Precision Medicine revolution and to provide unmatched capabilities to their provider and patient community.
Additionally, in the past months, Ovation has added experienced software, data and clinical leaders to its team. Paul Bryan recently joined Ovation as Vice President of Product and a member of the executive leadership team. Paul brings more than 20 years of experience building and growing SaaS product teams and businesses. He joined Ovation from Apptio, where he led a development team that incubated and created the product that served as the foundation of the company’s growth strategy. Additionally, Chris Hargarten, Director of Data Services, and Ngoc Le, Director of LIMS, join the product team, bringing a wealth of SaaS product and data analytics experience to Ovation.
Recognizing the challenge for clinical teams in deployment, Ovation recruited industry leader, Pauline Gee, PhD, to lead Clinical Affairs. Pauline brings nearly 25 years of experience building companies in the clinical laboratory space. Pauline is known for taking innovative scientific findings through clinical regulatory compliance to provide novel diagnostic tests in the clinic.
