GoBTC Pay Tests Bitcoin as a Payment Rail for Agentic Commerce at Agnic.AI Hackathon
GoBTC Pay is testing Bitcoin payments for autonomous AI agents through a dedicated developer track at Agentic Commerce Pioneers Edition II: The Shopping Agent Challenge.
The GoMining-built Bitcoin payment protocol served as a Diamond Sponsor of the Agnic.AI hackathon, which challenged developers to build AI agents that could purchase from merchants. Teams working on the GoBTC Pay track were required to produce functioning prototypes using the protocol.
The hackathon ran remotely from September 10 to 20, with Demo Day in Toronto on September 21. Participants included student developers, machine learning engineers, independent specialists and corporate teams.
GoBTC Pay’s involvement focused on payments, with one infrastructure challenge emerging as AI agents move from answering questions to performing economic tasks. Autonomous agents may need to purchase products for users and pay other agents for services without relying on a human to authorize every transaction.
Unlike payment systems that ultimately settle purchases into fiat, GoBTC Pay settles directly on Bitcoin’s base layer by default. Payers are not charged transaction fees, while merchants pay 0.2%, split between the wallet provider and miners processing settlement.
The protocol uses a 2-of-3 multi-signature architecture involving the user, GoMining, and a regulated third-party custodian. Transactions are routed through GoMining’s private mempool using Stratum V2 infrastructure and receive priority within the company’s own mining pool.
Roman Yermoshin, General Manager at GoBTC Pay, joined the hackathon’s judging panel. He said the event demonstrates a model in which AI agents could use Bitcoin to settle transactions directly, including payments between agents themselves.
GoBTC Pay launched in May and released its Gen1 SDK and API to third parties in June, allowing merchants, wallets, and other ecosystem participants to integrate the payment infrastructure.
