Katalyze AI raises $10.5M to bring agentic AI to pharma manufacturing and life sciences
Artificial intelligence has already reshaped drug discovery. Katalyze AI is betting the next opportunity lies deeper inside pharmaceutical companies, where scientists and manufacturing teams still spend countless hours piecing together data from disconnected systems before critical decisions can be made.
The San Francisco startup announced Tuesday that it has raised $10.5 million in seed funding led by Bonfire Ventures, with participation from Inovia Capital, Ripple Ventures, Alumni Ventures, and angel investors including Gokul Rajaram and Farzad Soleimani. Katalyze plans to use the funding to expand its engineering, scientific, and go-to-market teams, grow its catalog of AI agents, and scale deployments with large pharmaceutical companies.
Drugmakers are under pressure from multiple directions. Patent expirations are squeezing revenue, drug shortages continue to strain supply chains, and the cost of bringing new therapies to market remains enormous. At the same time, many research and manufacturing workflows still rely on information scattered across laboratory systems, manufacturing software, quality records, and enterprise applications.
Katalyze says its platform tackles that problem with an agentic operating system built for pharmaceutical manufacturing and life sciences. Scientists, engineers, and analysts can create specialized AI agents that perform engineering, scientific, and manufacturing tasks using verified operational data rather than relying on disconnected information or general-purpose AI models.
The platform connects production and laboratory data through integrations with systems such as MES, LIMS, ELN, historians, and SAP, creating what the company describes as a single operational record that both people and AI agents can use. Every output remains linked to its original data source, giving pharmaceutical companies the traceability required for regulated manufacturing environments and Good Manufacturing Practice (GxP) compliance.
That focus on trusted data is one reason Katalyze has attracted early customers in the pharmaceutical industry. The company says its platform is already being used by five of the world’s 20 largest pharmaceutical companies.
“What really separated Katalyze was that it was built for an enterprise like Sanofi from day one. The ontology layer was already in place. Data ingestion into the intelligence layer was solved. They had the security, the governance, the deployment story, everything we needed to scale this across R&D, not just run a pilot in one corner of the organization,” said Sabya Dasgupta, Global Head (VP) R&D Data Platforms & Products at Sanofi.
Founded by Reza Farahani, Shreyas Becker, Hannes Bretschneider, and Matt Cruz, Katalyze brings together experience across AI, enterprise software, and life sciences. With fresh funding in hand and several major pharmaceutical companies already on its customer roster, the AI startup is betting that the next wave of enterprise AI will come from autonomous agents taking on some of the industry’s most demanding scientific and manufacturing work.
Katalyze says the intelligence behind its platform is grounded in an operations-specific ontology and knowledge graph that provide AI agents with context for each manufacturing process and molecule. The company says that it helps agents investigate production issues, support quality teams, analyze manufacturing data, and generate results that remain traceable to the underlying records.
One early deployment highlighted the potential time savings. According to Katalyze, an analysis that would have taken roughly a year and cost between $4 million and $6 million was completed in just 45 minutes using its platform. The company did not disclose additional details about the project.

Bonfire Ventures says that emphasis on infrastructure, rather than AI assistants layered onto existing software, was a key reason it backed the company.
“Most AI in this category is a thin copilot bolted onto legacy tools,” said Brett Queener, General Partner at Bonfire Ventures. “Katalyze went the other way and built real infrastructure.”
