Sgnl: Phone calls with your fingertip
If you think there’s no better way to make your phone calls look futuristic and be discreet at the same time, think again. A new tech innovation called Sgnl is poised to change the way we make phone calls using our smart devices. It’s a wrist strap that does more than meets the eye – it enables you to make calls by placing your fingertip on your ear, or even upgrade your existing smart watch with this simple strap replacement.
With the so-called body conduction technology, Sgnl is able to transmit audio via your fingertips. When you press your finger near your ear, acoustic signals are transmitted from the strap to your ear so you hear sound without anyone noticing it. It makes phone calls as discreet as you’d like in certain situations, such as in meetings or in an elevator. Moreover, it eliminates the use of Bluetooth earpieces that you tend to lose over time, or fumbling around with tangled earphone wires that takes time to plug in and use. All you have to do now is just lift your finger to your ear and let Sgnl do the rest.
The novel audio tech within Sgnl also helps you to hear people on the other side as clearly as possible, even in the noisiest of situations. Your finger helps in attenuating external noise, so all you hear is what your caller says and none of the discordance around you.
Sgnl wirelessly connects to your Smartphone via Bluetooth, and uses this channel to transmit audio from your phone to the body conduction unit or BCU. When an audio signal is received, Sgnl will create vibrations through the BCU which transmits the vibration through your hand to your fingertip. When you place your fingertip to your ear, the vibration echoes to create amplified sound within the closed space of your ear.
It’s made to work with some of the latest smart watches, such as the Apple Watch, Samsung Gear, and Pebble Time. With a lug adapter designed to fit these watches, it only takes a few steps to replace your existing watch strap with the Sgnl strap. While Sgnl is made to be an upgrade to your existing smart watch strap, it also works as a standalone smart band.
A powerful companion app to Sgnl enables you to set call reminders for the people who matter to you the most. With a subtle nudge notification sent through the BCU, Sgnl can alert you of when to call certain contacts at any time you’d prefer. In addition, the strap also works as a fitness tracker with a built-in pedometer to track your daily fitness activities. Finally, the BCU acts as a haptic feedback device. It lets you feel a nudge whenever you have notifications. These notifications can be fully configured within the app, so you’ll only feel Sgnl alerting you only for the most important things.
Sgnl is a simple yet featured smart strap that upgrades your existing smart watch, while also letting you make and take phone calls with ease and privacy.
