OpenAI finally moves ChatGPT to ChatGPT.com
After two years of using the chatgpt.openai.com subdomain, OpenAI has finally migrated its popular ChatGPT platform to its new home, ChatGPT.com. OpenAI successfully acquired the domain ChatGPT.com after it settled with the former owner of chatgpt.com. However, the specifics of the settlement remain undisclosed.
It appears the team at OpenAI was surprised by the unprecedented popularity of ChatGPT as the AI startup neglected customary measures to safeguard the “ChatGPT” brand, including securing the .com domain.
Additionally, the safeguarding of the “CHATGPT” wordmark trademark was not executed with due diligence. Examination of the registered trademarks with USPTO for “CHATGPT” with the USPTO reveals a majority not affiliated with OpenAI.
