Elon Musk rebrands Twitter to ‘X,’ replaces iconic bird logo to reflect his vision of “everything app”
Elon Musk on Monday officially rebranded Twitter to ‘X’ and replaced Twitter’s iconic bird logo with an “X” as part of the extensive rebranding effort.
Musk, who acquired the platform for a whopping $44 billion a year ago, first hinted at a gradual departure from the association with birds in a post on Sunday that the company would soon “bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”
In an announcement over the weekend, the company also redirected X.com to the Twitter.com website. ” As of the time of writing, the domain X.com also redirects users to Twitter’s homepage, though Twitter.com also remains live. However, branding in the mobile app remains the same and has not changed for many Twitter users yet. “X.com now points to twitter.com. Interim X logo goes live later today,” Musk tweeted.
The transition to X reflects Musk’s vision of transforming the platform into what he refers to as an “everything app.” The change is set to reshape the platform and potentially expand its functionality beyond its traditional social media roots.
In a post on Sunday, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino wrote that X will be “centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking.” She also added that the platform will also be powered by XAI, a new artificial intelligence startup launched last week with the goal of “understanding the true nature of the universe.”
“X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine,” Yaccarino said.

The company embarked on its journey towards becoming X in April, as revealed in court filings, with the formal name change from Twitter, Inc. to X Corp.
Elon Musk, who holds the roles of executive chairman and CTO, announced on Monday that tweets will now be referred to as “x’s.” However, when questioned about what retweets would be called, he expressed the need to rethink the concept, leaving it open for further consideration.
To also mark the occasion, Musk shared an image of the X logo projected onto the company’s headquarters on Monday, emphasizing the significance of this rebranding move.
