Forget the self-driving car, say hello to futuristic self-driving suitcase
Headlines are filled with news stories about self-driving cars. What’s rarely talked about is how autonomous cars technologies are adapted in other products. Welcome to the worlds of hands-free luggage with futuristic robot suitcase. “Robot suitcase,” unveiled at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, to help travelers with the weighty problem of dealing with baggage. Robot suitcase, Travelmate, is made by California-based startup Travelmate, Travelmate is the first true robot companion and fully autonomous suitcase. Since the suitcase functions as a robot in practice, it uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to optimize its movements and omni wheels allow for markedly increased stability and range of motion that cannot be achieved otherwise. It works seamlessly in crowds and doesn’t require any extra peripherals. Travelmate can move vertically and horizontally when autonomous. You can take it with you when you’re going to the airport, commuting to work or just walking outside. Travelmate can be controlled with a smartphone app and will match your speed accurately and can go as fast as 6.75 mph., navigating around obstacles.
