Slack has acquired software as a service startup company Rimeto, the company announced Wednesday. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Rimeto was founded by Ted Zagat, Neville Bowers, and Maxwell Hayman, who previously held senior positions at Facebook across the social network’s video, commerce, and monetization teams. Ted Zagat also led his eponymous business, Zagat, which was acquired by Google in 2011.
In a blog post, Rimeto founders said,
We’re excited to announce that Rimeto has been acquired by Slack (NYSE: WORK). We founded Rimeto nearly four years ago to help people collaborate at work by reinventing the enterprise directory. People can’t work together effectively if they don’t understand each other; and the traditional “directory” of names, titles, and contact information doesn’t provide the context people need in today’s fast-paced, cross-functional, increasingly remote workplace.
Rimeto offers an enterprise wide, searchable directory, automatically integrating information from across your company to deliver rich profiles of every employee, their skills, experience, and current projects. Before the acquisition, Rimeto had raised $10 million in venture funding, builds a detailed employee dictionary for companies.
Slack said the acquisition will help its users fell more “connected,” especially as several offices continue to work at home during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Rimeto’s advanced profile and directory features will be integrated into Slack directly, but we will also continue to offer Rimeto as a standalone product and support their existing enterprise customers,” Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield said in a release.
