ChatGPT is down again, second outage in about two weeks
After a major outage left millions without access, OpenAI’s ChatGPT appears to be down again for the second outage in about two weeks.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT is experiencing a significant outage, lasting around four hours. As we deal with these disruptions
According to DownDetector, user reports of problems accessing ChatGPT began spiking around 2:00 PM ET on June 17th. OpenAI itself acknowledged “elevated error rates” impacting ChatGPT at roughly the same time. Downdetector also showed a high volume of reported issues at around 4 PM EST.
The exact cause remains unclear. However, given the widespread nature of the previous outage, this could potentially disrupt users for several hours.
Sporadic Functionality, Frustrated Users
Our own testing also revealed inconsistent responses from ChatGPT. We asked ChatGPT if it was down. After about five minutes of no response, the popular AI chatbot finally responded with: “There was an error generating a response.”

While some queries, like image generation, functioned normally, others simply timed out or displayed error messages. These inconsistencies reflect the experiences of users across the globe. Reports on social media indicate issues with ChatGPT on both mobile and web platforms, spanning locations like New Jersey, New York, and the United Kingdom.
Uncertain Resolution
With ChatGPT’s functionality currently in flux, we’ll continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as they become available. This latest development raises questions about the stability of the platform, particularly following the previous significant outage.
