Microsoft invests $2.1 billion to boost Spain’s AI industry
Just days after Microsoft made a massive €3.2 billion investment in AI in Germany, the tech giant is now directing billions toward Spain. Microsoft revealed plans on Monday to inject $2.1 billion into expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure in Spain over the next two years.
Brad Smith, Microsoft’s Vice Chair and President, announced the initiative in a post on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing the company’s dedication to Spain over the past 37 years. He highlighted the investment as a means to bolster Spain’s security and further its government, businesses, and people through digital transformation.
“I’m thrilled to announce that we will expand our AI and cloud infrastructure in Spain by $2.1B USD in the next two years. Our investment is beyond just building data centers, it’s a testament to our 37-year commitment to Spain, its security, and development and digital transformation of its government, businesses, and people,” Smith said.

The move comes on the heels of its announcement of a 3.2 billion euros ($3.45 billion) AI-focused investment in Germany, spanning the next two years. This marks Microsoft’s largest investment in Germany over the past 40 years, with a primary focus on artificial intelligence (AI) development.
As AI takes center stage, Microsoft has now invested at least $6 billion in four countries in the last two months. Last month, Microsoft, announced plans to train two million individuals in India’s smaller cities and one million in the UK to equip them with the necessary skills for success in an AI-driven economy.
