ChatGPT is down again: Suffers another outage just as Elon Musk shared OpenAI’s letter with “concerns worth investigating”
Online users are feeling a wave of frustration as OpenAI services, including the widely used chatbot ChatGPT, are grappling with yet another major outage. Interestingly, the outage occurred just a few minutes after Elon Musk shared an OpenAI letter that he described as “concerns worth investigating.”
So far, thousands of users have reported widespread disruptions on Wednesday evening, according to DownDetector.com, adding to a string of outages that have plagued the company in recent weeks.
“This letter about OpenAI was just sent to me. These seem like concerns worth investigating,” Musk said on X.

The outage also concides with another letter of former board member Greg’s use of indiscriminate against a gender-transitioning team member.
This latest setback comes amid internal turmoil at OpenAI, with hundreds of employees calling for the board’s resignation following the departure of former CEO Sam Altman. Meanwhile, Microsoft has capitalized on OpenAI’s turmoil, hiring two key executives from the company behind ChatGPT, just days after one of them was abruptly fired by OpenAI.
The developments followed a weekend of drama that shocked the AI field and fueled speculation about how the changes would shake out at OpenAI, which named a new chief executive on Friday and then replaced her on Sunday. The newest CEO vowed to investigate the firing of co-founder and CEO Sam Altman, one of the world’s most sought-after experts on AI.
Former OpenAI President Greg Brockman, also a co-founder, quit in protest after Altman was fired. Microsoft, which has been a close partner of the company and invested billions of dollars in it, announced that Altman and Brockman would lead its new advanced AI research team.
