50 recently-funded startups to watch in 2023
With the ongoing economic downturn and fear of a recession, tech startups have been hit hard as investors pulled back from new venture deals and reduce their investment in startups with exposure to recession. Further expounding on the funding problem, venture capitalist Bill Gurley said late last year that tech startups need to be realistic about the current economic environment.
In a statement, Gurley told McKinsey saying: “While many venture firms have a lot of money to invest, deal-making has slowed considerably this year [2022]. Average valuations of some fundraising rounds have dropped as investors adjust to an economic slowdown and look warily ahead.”
However, while some startups are still struggling to raise funds due to macroeconomic headwinds, recession-proof startups in the areas of AI, clean energy, healthcare, and climate change continue to raise millions in funding. In this piece, we want to share some of the recently-funded tech startups that have raised money this month. The list is not limited to just the AI and climate startups, it also includes BioTech, blockchain, EdTech, gaming, HealthTech, SaaS, and startups.
As you probably know, investors and venture capital firms have a significant amount of capital at their disposal and are constantly searching for the next big opportunity. As a result, they are extremely selective about the tech startups they choose to invest in. The 50 startups on our list have proven themselves and were able to pique the interest of investors.
Quick disclaimer: Bear in mind that hundreds of startups raise funding on a given day. As such, these are just a few of the startups that receive funding in January. We aren’t able to cover every funding announcement. Going forward, however, our goal is to provide you with the list of recently funded startups on weekly basis. Additionally, the startups listed below are not officially ranked and are listed in no particular order.
