Spotify’s deal with Joe Rogan is said to be worth over $200 million for just 3.5 years, doubled the amount previously reported
Joe Rogan is a name that is probably not well known in the tech community. But the host of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Spotify is the world’s most popular podcaster, with an estimated 11 million people per episode.
Early this year, it was reported that the streaming service allegedly paid $100 million to exclusively host the 54-year-old’s podcast. The revelation came to light after he was accused of using his show to spread misinformation about the covid vaccine.
Now, it turns out that the actual amount of the deal is worth “at least” $200 million “with the possibility of more,” according to a Thursday report from The New York Times, citing two people who are familiar with the transaction.
“The deal that brought his podcast to Spotify is said to be worth over $200 million, more than was previously known. Accusations that he spreads misinformation have roiled the company,” The Times wrote.
This news comes after a volatile month for the audio company and one in which musicians, podcasters, employees, and the medical community scrutinized the company’s work with the controversial podcaster.
It all started on December 29, 2021, when Twitter permanently suspended Dr. Malone for alleged ”misinformation” after he said in a tweet that “Pfizer mRNA vaccine does more harm than good.”
Then early this year, Rogan made the headlines after he invited “mRNA Inventor” Dr. Robert Malone and Cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough onto his show to share their views about the vaccine. During the show, Dr. Malone presented Pfizer’s vaccine trial data that shows an increased risk of illness and death for the vaccinated.
The appearance of Dr. Malone led the so-called 270 science and health professionals to ask Spotify to end Rogan’s show. However, Spotify said Joe’s Rogan interview with “mRNA Inventor” Dr. Robert Malone did not violate its policies.
Meanwhile, a big shout out to Rogan for mentioning TechStartups in one of his shows when he discussed the article below.
The article titled, “40% of US dollars in existence were printed in the last 12 months: Is America repeating the same mistake of 1921 Weimar Germany?” is now one of the most-read stories on our site.
