Fact-checkers come to the defense of Bill Gates saying that Gates’ statement that the current vaccines do not stop transmission of the virus, was taken out of context
Last week, we wrote about Bill Gates after Microsoft co-founder told Britain’s former health secretary Jeremy Hunt in a November 4 interview that ‘we need a new way of doing the vaccines’ because ‘we didn’t have vaccines that block transmission.’
Gates went on to say that “We got vaccines that help you with your health, but they only slightly reduce the transmission.”As the interview progressed, Gates went on to say this: “We didn’t have vaccines that block transmission,” Gates told Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, contradicting previous interviews in which he claimed the vaccines significantly block transmission.
The statement quickly spread to social media, with some claiming that Gates “admitted” that COVID-19 vaccines are not very effective. Versions of the social media claim have been seen by nearly a million people across Facebook (here) and Twitter (here and here).
Fast forward a week later, Fact-checkers are now coming out in defense of Bill Gates saying that his statement was taken out of context. Here is how Reuters reported the story.
Reuters said that “A snippet of an interview with Bill Gates has been taken out of context by social media users who claim the billionaire philanthropist “admitted,” that COVID-19 vaccines are not very effective.”
“It is true that current COVID-19 vaccines do not halt transmission of the virus. However, they are highly effective at preventing severe disease. Scientists have estimated that COVID-19 vaccines saved 140,000 lives in the United States up to May,” Reuters reported.
Reuters also pointed out one tweet with high engagement that reads: “This is an explicit acknowledgment that the mRNA and rAdV vaccines for COVID are not working well.”
The news outlet also cited another tweet by Dr. Robert Malone, who claimed to have invented the mRNA vaccine. Dr. Malone said:
“For those who have not seen it, this is an explicit acknowledgment that the mRNA and rAdV vaccines for COVID are not working well. Bill G is a bit behind the data, as the effectivness of the jabs for preventing disease is also dropping, and not as good as natural immunity.”

The question is, what did Bill Gates really say? Here is one excerpt:
“We didn’t have vaccines that block transmission. We got vaccines that help you with your health, but they only slightly reduce the transmission. So, we need a new way of doing the vaccines” (from timestamp, 27:25).
You can watch the video of the entire interview and make your own judgment call.
