Facebook back online after six hours of worldwide outage
It now appears everyone on Facebook is back to life after the DNS issues were resolved after six hours of the worldwide outage that threw billions of Facebook users into darkness.
According to DNS Checker, there’s a sign of life coming from Facebook’s DNS servers the DNS issues knocked Facebook and other related products off the internet for more than six hours. The outage, which started at around 11 AM Eastern Standard Time, also affected Instagram and WhatsApp have been down for over four hours. The outage continues to this afternoon after Facebook went down at around 11 AM Eastern Standard Time.
In a tweet, Senior Editor at The Verge tweeted, “Facebook seems to be slowly coming back to life. I’m seeing BGP announcements and DNS is back.” However, even though Facebook’s DNS is back up, that doesn’t mean everything is fixed. Some Facebook users are still having problems accessing Facebook’s app and platform.

However, NYT’s Sheera Frenkel reported that Facebook appears to have more than DNS issues.
“Was just on phone with someone who works for FB who described employees unable to enter buildings this morning to begin to evaluate extent of outage because their badges weren’t working to access doors,” she said in a tweet.
