Amazon launches a $54.99 smart soap dispenser with a timer to make sure you wash for 20 seconds, also works with Alexa
Most of us don’t comply with the CDC-recommended minimum amount of time to wash our hands. Now, e-commerce giant Amazon just unveiled a smart soap dispenser with a 20-second timer that also works with Alexa. The $54.99 dispenser, which is now available on the Amazon website, is scheduled to launch on August 4.
According to the information on Amazon’s website, the automatic dispenser’s 20-second timer lights up as you lather, guiding you to wash for the CDC-recommended minimum amount of time. However, the dispenser doesn’t have a speaker or microphone, and Alexa isn’t built-in.
After your soap dispenses, the 20-second LED timer ticks down—guiding you to scrub for the CDC-recommended minimum amount of time.
For entertainment and other Alexa routines, customers can pair it to a compatible Echo device (sold separately) that’s within 30 feet of the dispenser to create an Alexa Routine and have your Echo automatically play songs, jokes, and more while they wash.
Amazon said the Smart Soap Dispenser only works with liquid hand soap. Amazon warns against filling it with foaming soap or any alcohol-based product, including hand sanitizer. You also don’t have to worry about running out of battery juice. Amazon said that a single battery charge can last up to 3 months.
