Leadership lessons for startup founders
Happy Friday. As we all know, the startup journey is not easy, and building a successful startup is not for the faint of heart. It is fraught with risks, challenges, obstacles, and hardship. As Sumner Redstone once said, “Success is not built on success. It’s built on failure. It’s built on frustration. Sometimes it’s built on catastrophe.” So every Friday, we love to share inspirational stories and messages to encourage and motivate entrepreneurs and startup founders through their startup journey.
In this week’s piece, we want to share leadership advice from Simon Sinek, an inspirational speaker and the author of five books, including the popular book Start With Why, and The Infinite Game. We all know that building a successful startup is not just about having the right technology and building the right products that customers want. It’s also about mission, vision, right leadership, and having the right team and talent. As Elon Musk once said, “do everything you can to gather great people if you want to create a successful company.”
As a founder, owner, and tech leader, it is necessary that you have a clear vision that excites and motivates your team to follow you. It’s also about caring and listening to the people at the bottom of the ladder.
In the video below, Sinek talked about leadership traits including passion, caring, humility, active listening, sense of purpose, and the lens through which you view the world, among others. For example, why did you decide to launch your startup–to make more money, passion, financial freedom, make a difference in the world, etc.? Do you have a bigger purpose? Do you take responsibility for your actions? What kind of environment do you create for your team?
Below is a message Sinek delivered to the audience at Alpha Leaders, a group founded to motivate, inspire, and educate people through content and motivating stories and speeches that impact the world. We hope you find this video encouraging and inspiring.
