Top 10 most downloaded apps of 2020
For people all over the world, 2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone, to say the least. We can’t wait for this year to be over. As we spend more time working from home due to COVID19, we see an increase in app usage as more and more people turned to games and video streaming to keep themselves occupied. Others had to download conferencing apps for work and to also communicate with their loved ones.
With just three days left before the end of the year, we want to take a look at the top ten most downloaded apps of 2020. This year, we see a surge in demand for apps because of the increase in the number of people working from home due to COVID-19 lockdowns. This report is based on data from app research firm Appfigures. With that said, below are the top 10 most downloaded apps of 2020.
TikTok comes on top as the most downloaded app of 2020. There’s really no surprise here even with bans from the US and the Indian government. Buoyed by COVID-19 lockdowns, TikTok adoption grew five times in 2020 compared to 2019. In the first 11 months (and one week) of 2020, TikTok recorded more than 800 million new downloads globally across its flagship, lite, and regional version of its iOS and Android apps. In August alone, TikTok was installed 63 million times.
Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram come in second, third, and fourth place respectively. Zoom also makes the cut among the top ten apps as more people use the video conferencing app for work and personal communication. Zoom now boasts almost 500 million downloads and grew rapidly in 2020. Zoom is not the only popular video chat app. Google Meet saw downloads spike to over 272 million in 2020, with Telegram adding 353 million downloads.
