South Korea-based Dillyhub secures $1.4 million seed funding to grow its platform that offers publishing and monetization for comic creators
Dillyhub is a new Seoul, South Korea-based tech startup that offers a publishing and monetization platform for comic creators. The young startup promotes and facilitates the works of independent comic artists while maximizing their monetization options. Through Dillyhub’s innovative proprietary technology it connects creators and fans, using intuitive ways to present and increase the discoverability of creative work.
Today, Dillyhub announced it has secured $1.4 million seed funding from SV Investment, Kakao Ventures and Shinhan Capital as its user base grows to 200.000 registered accounts. With the investment, Dillyhub will further grow and develop its fast-growing proprietary technology platform and ready itself for global expansion.
Founded in 2018 in Seoul, Dillyhub has provided comic creators with a platform that allows them to self-publish and monetize content on their own terms while retaining their independence and IP ownership. With 200.000 registered users, the Dillyhub platform gives indie creators unprecedented reach and monetization options which will help them in their sustainability and growth.
“Dillyhub has quickly developed itself to the go-to platform for independent South Korean comic artists and we were surprised by how quickly they gained organic traction amongst fans,” said Shina Chung, CEO, and partner at Kakao Ventures. “What Jin and her team have developed over the last two years is hugely impressive and we’re excited to help them in becoming a global market leader.”
One success story is that of content creator Dr. Gosari who published her comic “Paradise” through Dillyhub’s platform which became an overnight success, reaching $200.000 in sales within a few months of publishing. Since her success, comic artists have broken free from the limitations that are now present in the market and turned to Dillyhub for freedom and better monetization of their work.
“I am happy to have the opportunity to invest in an independent platform that is friendly to content creators worldwide”, said MinGoo Kang, Principal at SV Investment. “We see huge potential in Dillyhub’s global growth and we are excited to be a part of it.”
“With a profound presence and background within the IT sector, these investors are the ideal partners to scale our business activities and to fulfill our ambition to become a global player”, said Jin Park, CEO of Dillyhub. “We are excited to have a partner on board that not only provides us the capital to fulfill our dreams but also offers their market expertise.”
While rapidly growing the domestic South Korean business, the company has already set up an Amsterdam subsidiary to lead Dillyhub’s global expansion. The Western Dillyhub platform is scheduled for a closed beta in Q4 2020.
