Facebook launches Collab, a TikTok-style app for making collaborative music videos with friends
Today, Facebook announced the launch of a mix-and-match app called Collab. The TikTok-style app is a mix-and-match app for making collaborative music videos with friends. The app, which is launching as an invite-only beta on iOS, was developed by Facebook’s app-focused New Product Experimentation (NPE) team.
According to the information from the NPE page, the new Collab app brings together creators and fans to create, watch, and mix and match original videos, starting with music. With Collab, users can also create, watch and mash up original videos and music.
Users don’t need any musical experience to add their own recordings, according to the release. The app allows you to swipe and discover other videos that might complete your composition. Your creations can be shared across platforms and others can mix and match with your creation. Think of it as digital Dadaism.
“Music is one of the most powerful creative outlets. With Collab, we’re leveraging technology to help people unlock creative superpowers by collaborating on original music videos from anywhere. In light of so many folks sheltered in place around the world, we’ve expedited this release,” NPE said
To request access, sign up for our waitlist at https://npe.fb.com/collab. We’ll be opening up invites in batches, starting with folks in the US and Canada, as we continue to improve the experience. You can stay up to date on invites and all things Collab in our Facebook group.
