StartupX launches HyperX, the world’s first sustainability hackcelerator
Today, the world faces tremendous uncertainty and volatility on various fronts. It is easy to lose sight of key sustainability issues in the face of growing economic pressure. To drive sustainable development, growth must be inclusive. It has to be a collective effort by consumers, policy makers, businesses and communities to improve lives of the underserved and ensure that no one is left behind. StartupX is Singapore-based startup company passionate about growing the early-stage startup ecosystem. The team is deeply ingrained in the startup scene in Southeast Asia and aim to support fellow founders and aspiring entrepreneurs in the tech community.
Today, StartupX announced the launch of HyperX the world’s first sustainability hackcelerator in partnership with Temasek, a Singapore-based investment company with a net portfolio value of $231 billion (S$313 billion). HyperX is a flagship global innovation program developed in partnership between StartupX and Temasek. The program brings together global innovators and changemakers to build startups that can imagine, define and construct the future, by tackling the world’s biggest problems on a global scale.
Spanning across 12 months, the program will bring together innovators and entrepreneurs from across the globe to drive sustainable solutions from ideation to realization. The program will kick off with a 3-day HyperHack on 8 – 10 November, where over 150 global participants will come together to ideate, hack, design and build products and services that can put the world on a path to sustainability.
HyperHack will also provide participants with mentoring opportunities from industry leaders, as well as access to real-world data tool-kits to aid the ideation process.
Commenting on the launch, Durwin Ho, Chief Executive Officer, StartupX said: “Our aim is to bring together innovators from across the globe and provide them the mechanisms to turn ideas that tackle the biggest economic, social and environmental challenges the world faces today into reality.”
HyperHack is the first stage in the HyperX program. It will be followed by HyperSpark, a pre-accelerator program taking place in February 2020 to develop teams emerging from HyperHack with the strongest ideas into fully fledged startups.
The final leg of the HyperX program, HyperScale, is a high-growth program which will help early stage startups with a minimum viable product scale their sustainable innovations globally.
Durwin Ho, Chief Executive Officer, StartupX continued: “HyperX as a program also understands that each innovation, each startup, each team, may well have a very different journey. The idea is that they can choose to participate in one part of the program but not the others – it is entirely dependent on the growth needs of the entrepreneurs and startups. The most important thing is to find a path that fits them at the various stages of the business lifecycle.”
The 2019-2020 edition of HyperX focuses on creating a better future for everyone, by enabling technologies and solutions to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Participants will devise commercially-viable solutions, which can range from meeting the growing global demand for food and water without harming the environment to addressing the specific needs of an ageing population – to deliver a more sustainable future together.
Mark Lim, Managing Director, Digital Technology, Temasek said: “We are committed to doing our part for the community and environment. Doing Good as a trusted steward and Doing Right as a forward-looking institution are key drivers for us to Do Well as an investor. Together with enterprising, socially-responsible innovators from HyperX, we can develop ideas and solutions towards a better, smarter and more sustainable world for present and future generations.”
Applications to join the first stage of the HyperX program, HyperHack, open today, and will close on 13 October. For more details, please visit https://www.hyperx.global
