Meet Solgaard Suitcase, A Carry-On Closet 2.0 with Shelf and USB
You check into a hotel room and before you know it your suitcase contents end up scattered all over the room. One sustainable travel and accessory startup at the intersection of fashion and technology, Solgaard Design, has created a Carry-on Closet that allows you to stay organized easily and find your things faster and with less frustration – thus also making it faster to pack up. Today, the startup unveiled the Carry-On Closet 2.0 suitcase on Kickstarter Monday, December 10, 2018, raising over $25,000 representing 100% of its total campaign goal in six hours. As of time of writing, Solgaard Design has $45,295 from 248 backers with 29 days to go.
The Carry-On fits as standard carry-on for all airlines, including European airlines with limited sizing. The Carry-On Plus is geared for American travelers – U.S. Domestic flights allow this size. Most flights will allow you to take either suitcase + a personal item (i.e. a backpack) *note: we’ve tested on 20+ flights with the Carry-On Plus size and never been denied.
The revolutionary new luggage solution designed to accommodate on-the-go lifestyles and keep travelers organized while on the road features a patented removable and retractable internal shelving system allowing for improved internal organization when the shelf is not in use. Additional standout features include an easily accessible USB power port with an internal powerbank pocket for charging on the go, a newly engineered strong and silent 360-degree eight-wheel system, new ‘one hand pinch’ closure system, and three digit combination TSA-approved lock. The perfect balance of durability and ease of movement, the Carry-On Closet 2.0 features an unbreakable lightweight polycarbonate shell with an anti-scratch and weather resistant surface.
Echoing the Solgaard Design product ethos, “great things that do good,” the eco-friendly lining of the suitcase is manufactured from recycled plastic bottles, with a proceed from every Solgaard product purchased donated to remove 5 lbs of plastic waste from the world’s oceans.
The Carry-On Closet 2.0 marks Solgaard Design’s fifth Kickstarter campaign, commencing only a week after the close of its previous Recycled Oceans Plastics Daypack campaign. Until now, Kickstarter has required creators to fulfill all outstanding commitments to backers and ship all rewards before launching a new project. Solgaard Design is the first to trial the “Trusted Creator” concept, with Kickstarter citing its confidence in Solgaard’s ability to deliver following four previous successfully funded and fulfilled campaigns.
The brainchild of inventor and entrepreneur, Adrian Solgaard, the introduction of the Carry-On Closet 2.0 comes a year following the 2017 launch of its predecessor, the original Carry-On Closet, featured in TIME Magazine “Top 50 Inventions 2018.”
“Our mission is to better serve our customers by offering practical, environmentally conscious, and seamless tech-driven solutions to the problems and challenges one encounters while packing and traveling,” said Founder Adrian Solgaard. “We are excited to share the innovative engineering enhancements within the Carry-On Closet 2.0 – designed for travelers, by travelers, with sustainability in mind.”
Available in two sizes and two color variations (stealth black and navy blue), the Solgaard Carry-On Closet 2.0 and the Solgaard Carry-On Closet 2.0 Plus are available now on Kickstarter. Prices start at $149. For more information on the Solgaard Carry-On Closet 2.0, visit there Kickstarter campaign page.
