Silicon Mobility raises $10 million Series B to accelerate market adoption and prepare new technologies for autonomous vehicles
As the market for electric and hybrid vehicles continues to grow faster towards the mass market, their efficiency and performance remain limited due to the use of conventional semiconductor solutions. These inherited solutions of the thermal engine vehicles are based on unsuitable technologies causing software bottlenecks during the control of the power and the on-board calculation necessary for the control of the electric motors. This leaves untapped potential for additional battery life and battery charging for electric and hybrid vehicles and limits the impact on the environment.
Silicon Mobility, a Sophia-Antipolis, France-based startup, has invented a new semiconductor architecture designed specifically for electric and hybrid vehicles of today and tomorrow, releasing the true potential of computing power and control: OLEA Field Programmable Control Unit (FPCU).
Today, Silicon Mobility announced it has raised $10 million Series B funding to meet customer demand and revolutionize the energy efficiency of hybrid and electric Vehicles. The latest round is led by Capital-E and Cipio Partners including undisclosed private industry investors.
” We are excited about this opportunity to offer a complete solution to the many OEMs and OEMs we work with, ” said Bruno Paucard, president of Silicon Mobility. ” With this funding, we are ensuring our ability to meet today’s customer demand and achieve our ambitious goals of geographic expansion and innovation . ”
OLEA FPCU is supplemented by a suite of software products, OLEA CALL , OLEA LIB and OLEA APP, delivering unparalleled performance compared to traditional solutions. By using Silicon Mobility’s solutions, OEMs and automakers are dramatically increasing the energy efficiency of 50-70% electric powertrains, reducing the number of electronic components used while reducing development cycle times. This new financing will allow Silicon Mobility to continue its growth with this disruptive solution and to meet market demand.
“The electrification of vehicles is still in its infancy but we are seeing much faster cycles than those traditionally known in the sector, ” says Pascal Vanluchene of Capital E. ” Customer feedback is immediate and they claim to have found what they had been looking for a long time. We are taking a giant step by drastically reducing the ” anxiety of distance” thanks to enormous energy gains so far unknown to the sector.”
Founded in 2015 by Bruno Paucard, David Fresneau, and Vincent Cruvellier, Silicon Mobility is a full stack semiconductor technology player powering control solutions for a cleaner, safer and
smarter mobility. The company was recently awarded the Mondial Tech Startup Award in the Electrification and Hybridization category at the Mondial de l’Auto in Paris on October 5, 2018.
