Swedish investor EQT acquires majority stake in cybersecurity firm Acronis
Swedish financial investor EQT announced on Wednesday that it will acquire a majority stake in the Swiss cybersecurity and data protection company Acronis.
The acquisition will be executed through a private equity fund, with EQT purchasing shares from existing investors, including CVC, Springcoast Capital Partners, and BlackRock. These investors will remain as shareholders, EQT partner Johannes Reichel confirmed in a statement to Reuters.
Acronis’ valuation has climbed since a 2022 financing round, when it was valued at $3.5 billion. Its valuation has climbed to approximately $4 billion, reflecting a 10-15% increase, Reuters reported.
The deal is pending regulatory approval and is expected to close in the first half of 2025.
Founded in 2000, Acronis offers a wide range of cyber protection services, addressing challenges related to safety, accessibility, privacy, and security. Their offerings include antivirus, backup, disaster recovery, endpoint protection management, AI-driven antimalware, and blockchain-based data authentication technologies. The company employs 2,100 people and has raised $658 million since its inception, according to funding data from Notice.co.
Acronis’ solutions protect data, applications, and systems across various environments, defending against cyberattacks, hardware failures, natural disasters, and human errors. The company supports service providers with infrastructure protection, helping them maintain profitability, and also provides critical infrastructure protection for corporate IT teams and home office users.
