GoMining launches GoBTC Pay SDK and API to bring Bitcoin payments to real-world commerce
For years, Bitcoin advocates have argued that the cryptocurrency was meant to function as money, not just an asset stored in digital wallets. Yet most Bitcoin activity still revolves around buying, holding, and trading rather than paying for everyday goods and services.
GoMining wants to change that.
The Bitcoin mining company announced the launch of the GoBTC Pay Gen1 SDK and API, opening its Bitcoin payment infrastructure to merchants, wallet providers, and ecosystem partners. The release marks the first time external companies can integrate GoBTC Pay directly into products and services, turning what had been a limited demonstration platform into an open network for Bitcoin payments.
The move comes as crypto companies continue searching for practical ways to increase real-world cryptocurrency usage. Stablecoins have gained traction in payments, while Bitcoin has struggled to achieve comparable merchant adoption, despite remaining the largest cryptocurrency by market value.
GoBTC Pay aims to address that gap by allowing users to pay with Bitcoin without giving up custody of their assets. Transactions settle directly on Bitcoin, and merchants can integrate payment functionality through GoMining’s newly released developer tools.
“Satoshi didn’t create Bitcoin to sit idle in wallets. It was designed to move value between people,” said Mark Zalan, CEO of GoMining. “With the launch of the GoBTC Pay SDK and API, we’re giving merchants and wallet providers the infrastructure to bring that vision into real-world commerce in a way that is seamless and intuitive for users. We believe Bitcoin’s next chapter will be defined by how people use it, in addition to how many people own it.”
The company said it plans to onboard an initial group of up to ten merchants and ecosystem partners as part of the rollout. Those early participants will begin integrating GoBTC Pay into products and services as GoMining expands the network.
The Gen1 release includes merchant onboarding tools, payment management features, a web-based dashboard, online payment integrations, public developer documentation, and APIs that wallet providers and institutional partners can use to connect to the platform.
At the center of the system is GoMining’s private 15 EH/s mempool built on the Stratum V2 protocol. The company says that infrastructure allows GoBTC Pay transactions to receive priority treatment within its mining network. Transactions are expected to settle within an average of 12 hours, an approach GoMining says preserves Bitcoin’s core architecture while creating a payment experience that feels closer to using a debit card.
The economics behind the network are structured to encourage participation from multiple sides of the ecosystem. Merchants pay a 0.2% transaction fee, with proceeds split evenly between participating wallet providers and miners in the GoMining pool that process settlements. The company believes the model can create financial incentives for wallets and mining operators to support greater Bitcoin payment activity.
The launch follows GoMining’s introduction of GoBTC Pay at Consensus Miami and signals a broader effort to build an ecosystem around Bitcoin-based commerce rather than speculative trading alone.
Founded as a Bitcoin-focused platform for mining, earning, and spending cryptocurrency, GoMining says it serves more than five million users and ranks among the world’s ten largest Bitcoin mining operators by hashrate. The company operates data centers in the United States and other international markets and has expanded beyond mining through products built around tokenized hashrate and Bitcoin payments.
Whether Bitcoin can become a commonly used payment method remains an open question. What is clear is that companies across the crypto industry continue searching for ways to bridge the gap between owning Bitcoin and actually spending it. GoMining’s latest launch is the company’s latest bet that merchant tools and developer infrastructure can help move that effort forward.
