ThreatSpike raises $14M in series A funding after 14 years of bootstrapping

ThreatSpike, a cybersecurity startup that’s been quietly building for over a decade, just raised $14 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Expedition Growth Capital and marks the company’s first institutional investment after 14 years of self-funding.
The UK-based company offers an all-in-one cybersecurity platform designed to replace the patchwork of expensive, hard-to-manage tools many companies rely on today. As part of the deal, Will Sheldon, partner at Expedition, and Emily Orton, co-founder of Darktrace, are joining ThreatSpike’s board.
ThreatSpike, a Cybersecurity Startup Founded by Husband-and-Wife Duo Kate and Adam Blake, Raises $14M after 14 Years of Self-Funding
ThreatSpike was founded in 2011 by Adam and Kate Blake, a husband-and-wife team of computer scientists with backgrounds in software and cybersecurity. Both had previously worked on cybersecurity programs at major financial institutions. Since then, they’ve grown the company profitably, without outside capital, through customer referrals and steady demand.
“We founded ThreatSpike having witnessed firsthand that achieving high-quality cybersecurity protection is far too complex and costly,” said CEO and founder Adam Blake. “In a market full of three-letter acronym products and aggressive upselling, we take a different approach, which puts customer security at the core.”
Today, ThreatSpike serves more than 200 clients across 90 countries, including companies in hospitality, industrials, investment management, and professional services.
“ThreatSpike has the highest level of customer referral-driven growth and satisfaction that we have seen across the cybersecurity industry,” said Sheldon. “The company has been growing rapidly and profitably without investment, and we are proud to partner with Adam and Kate as they fuse software and services into a unique platform that delivers tangible cybersecurity outcomes for sophisticated customers globally.”
Emily Orton, who helped build Darktrace into a billion-dollar business, called Adam and Kate “impressive technology entrepreneurs” and said she’s excited to help scale the company in its next chapter.
The fresh capital will go toward international growth and hiring across engineering, security ops, and sales. ThreatSpike will also accelerate development on its two core offerings: ThreatSpike Blue, which provides 24/7 managed detection and response, and ThreatSpike Red, which offers unlimited penetration testing.
Longtime customer Inchcape Shipping Services praised the company’s track record. “From the very beginning, ThreatSpike has instilled a strong sense of trust and confidence within our team,” said Lee Scott, Head of Cyber Security at Inchcape. “They’ve continually delivered on their promises, going above and beyond to provide innovative and reliable solutions.”
ThreatSpike says its platform processes billions of events daily and supports hundreds of thousands of users. It combines automation with hands-on monitoring by security analysts and red teamers—a mix it claims sets it apart in a noisy market.
After years under the radar, ThreatSpike now has funding, momentum, and a board stacked with experience. The company isn’t trying to follow the cybersecurity playbook—it’s writing its own.
