Elon Musk told his 100 million Twitter followers to vote Republicans in U.S. midterm elections to ‘curb the worst excesses of both parties’
As you may recall, just a few weeks before the US presidential election in 2020, David Barrett, founder and CEO of San Francisco tech company Expensify, emailed 10 million customers urging them to vote for Biden and stop Evil Trump.
Unlike other companies, such as Apple, Facebook, Google, and Twitter that sought to limit internal discussion on hot-button issues and disguise their support for Biden using censorship, Barrett was vocal about his support for Biden saying “anything less than a vote for Biden is a vote against democracy.”
Fast forward two years later, other tech executives and billionaires are now openly expressing their support for either party. With the US mid-term elections coming up tomorrow, Twitter owner Elon Musk is the latest in a series of tech billionaires wading into politics to share his views.
In a post earlier today, Musk told his 100 million Twitter followers to vote for Republicans in the midterm elections tomorrow. He posted a tweet urging his fans to vote for a Republican Congress to curb the worst excesses of both parties.
“To independent-minded voters: Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the Presidency is Democratic,” Musk tweeted.

Musk has since received criticisms from supporters of both parties. In a follow-up tweet, Musk added: “Hardcore Democrats or Republicans never vote for the other side, so independent voters are the ones who actually decide who’s in charge!”
