Madrid-based tech startup Tinybird raises $37M Series A; launches a free plan to help developers build real-time data products
Tinybird, a Madrid, Spain-based tech startup that helps developers productize real-time data at any scale, announced today it has raised $37 million in Series A funding to expand its team and support its ambitious product roadmap, the company’s growth, and its expansion into North America.
Today’s news comes on the heels of Tinybird’s July 2021 announcement of its $3 million Seed-funding round. The funding will also help Tinybird to keep up with the growing demand as companies generate more data from mobile devices and SaaS apps, to IoT and beyond.
The round was led by CRV and Singular Ventures, with participation from Seed-funding lead Crane Ventures. Amit Agarwal, the Chief Product Officer of Datadog, and Guillermo Rauch (CEO of Vercel), have also participated in the Series A round as a business angel joining existing angels.
Founded in 2019 by CEO Jorge Gómez Sancha, Javier Santana, Javier Álvarez Medina, and Raul Ochoa, Tinybird helps data teams deliver real-time answers at scale through analytical API endpoints built in minutes. The company is headquartered in New York, with an office in Madrid, and remote employees globally.
The startup also helps developers build products that make use of real-time data in a serverless fashion, without worrying about scale. And they can develop data products just like they do any other software project and with the tools they already know: SQL and APIs.
Typically building data products over large amounts of data takes weeks but using Tinybird, developers can seamlessly ingest large volumes of data and instantly build fast APIs that can power their digital products to deliver business value. Tinybird’s clients include digital natives, omnichannel retailers, cryptocurrency market makers, and software companies across industries that include travel, consumer goods, business services, and logistics.
“Analytics has traditionally been used to gain insights about what happened with your business in the past. But being able to analyze and exploit real-time data can fundamentally change how you operate your business: from automating your operations and reacting much faster to opportunities and problems, to providing a real-time and customized user experience for your users,” says Jorge Gomez Sancha, CEO and Co-founder of Tinybird. “What sets Tinybird apart is the speed and flexibility it provides for developers who want to bring real-time data products to market as fast as possible, without having to worry about scale.”
“Tinybird is the most exciting data company since Snowflake. It’s revolutionized the way we think about real-time data analytics at Vercel, for billions of data points per day,” said Guillermo Rauch, CEO at Vercel.
“Tinybird has uniquely identified a solution for developers across industries from SaaS to education, financing, advertising, and more to build real-time analytics APIs quickly and with no backend complexity,” said Reid Christian, General Partner at CRV who will also join the board. “But what really distinguishes Tinybird from others in this space is the speed with which customers take processes from minutes or hours down to milliseconds.”
