A 92-year old Twitter-verified user from New Zealand lost his “entire life savings into the imaginary coins;” pleads with Elon Musk to tweet so he can get his money and life back [Updated with correction]
June 29, 2021 Update: This article has now been marked as humor. We’ve just been informed that the Twitter user in question is a minor making a joke. Hats off to Pierre Collignon for the info.
Millions of crypto investors have lost their life savings as the crypto bloodbath continues until this morning. Bitcoin was down more than 30% on the day to $30,015.02, according to Coin Metrics. It hit as low as $30,001.51 as the selling intensified Wednesday morning. The cryptocurrency hasn’t traded below $30,000 since late January.
It all started last week when Tesla announced it will no longer accept bitcoin for car purchases over concerns about the environmental impacts. The news sent shock waves to the crypto markets causing bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to lose over 10 percent of their values in just a few days.
Then, when you think things might get better, the bad news keeps piling on. On Tuesday, three Chinese banking and payment industry bodies issued a statement banning financial institutions not to conduct virtual currency-related business, including trading or exchanging fiat currency for cryptocurrency.
Now, people are now turning to social media to express their frustration, anger, despair. An example of this is a 92-year-old Twitter-verified user from New Zealand that goes by the name Dolan Dark with 1.8 million Twitter followers. Dolan describes himself as “A music critic, Minecraft entrepreneur, Hentai enthusiast, intelligent atheist, and renowned archaeologist.1/9 SB.”
Dolan pleaded with Elon Musk in a tweet this morning saying:
“Elon i invested my Entire life Savings into the imaginary coins and have lost literally everything i will never see my kids again i have been living on the street for 3 days thank u for tweeting this Sir can u please keep tweeting so i can get my money and life back sir”

If the price drop continues at this rate, the government might need to launch a suicide helpline. About two years ago, a Chinese bitcoin trader committed suicide after losing 2,000 BTC on 100x leverage bet.
