Polaris to launch its first off-road electric Ranger UTV
Powersports and all-terrain vehicle maker Polaris Inc announced Monday that it plans to launch its first full-size off-road electric RANGER UTV with Zero Motorcycles powertrain. Last year, Polaris reached a deal with Zero Motorcycles with exclusive rights to use Zero’s proven electric powertrains in off-road vehicles and snowmobiles for the next 10 years.
The new 2022 RANGER EV, which will be the first electric vehicle to come out of their collaboration, is scheduled to be launched in late December of this year. Polaris says the new 2022 RANGER models are expected to reach dealerships by early 2022.
With 2022 release date, Polaris is aiming to compete with new electric UTVs from Texas-based startup Volcon which plans to release its two-seater and four-seater model in late 2021 and mid-2022, respectively.
In a statement on the company’s website, Steve Menneto, president of Polaris Off-Road, said: “As our top-selling off-road vehicle brand, Ranger has continually set the benchmark as the hardest working, smoothest riding UTV, leading the market in rider-inspired innovation. The new electric powertrain will elevate the Ranger platform to a whole new level of capability, durability, and performance.”
Founded in 1954 by Allen Hetteen, David Johnson, and Edgar Hetteen, Polaris is a manufacturer of motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATV, and neighborhood electric vehicles.
