SAIC and employees generate nearly $3.5 million in aid for communities and colleagues affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAIC) announced today that its employees and the company have donated approximately $3.5 million in aid to assist communities and colleagues impacted by COVID-19. Across various efforts throughout the nation, SAIC and employees have supported local food banks, donated paid leave hours, created and provided personal protective equipment to first responders, and is helping the out-of-work in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Our focus remains on ensuring the health and safety of our colleagues and partners, and continuing to serve our customers and our communities.”
Employee Leave Donation and Relief Program
Many SAIC employees are facing exceptional challenges caused by COVID-19 pandemic. Hardships due to illness, childcare or homeschooling duties, facility closures, or family obligations have resulted in some employees exhausting their allocated paid leave. In response, SAIC and employees have donated more than $2.7 million – and counting – of leave hours to employees in need, with $1.7 million donated from employees and $1 million matched by SAIC.
In line with SAIC’s longstanding commitment to combat hunger, the company increased its 2020 donations to local food banks to mitigate food shortages due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, SAIC pledged $500,000 to support local food banks, which included $50,000 to the Capital Area Food Bank, $30,000 to food bank partners in the San Diego area, and contributions to 25 other food banks across the country as part of the company’s partnership with Feeding America.
As our most vulnerable citizens, children and the elderly are facing food insecurity due to record unemployment rates, closed schools, and suspended services across the nation. SAIC’s commitment to hunger relief efforts especially for the most at risk will continue throughout 2020. In September, SAIC will launch its yearly Hunger Action Month fundraising campaign in partnership with Feeding America, with an ambitious $120,000 fundraising goal. Earlier this year, SAIC’s Board Chair Donna Morea, Keene, and other tech industry leaders helped raise more than $500,000 in support of ‘Tech Steps Up for No Kid Hungry.’ The initiative began to assist the nearly one in four children living in hunger as a result of the pandemic.
In August, SAIC donated $250,000 to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s Save Space Camp campaign. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the center experienced a dramatic reduction in attendance at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center museum and Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, leading to a significant decrease in revenue and operating capital. With SAIC’s donation, the organization reached its goal of raising $1.5 million to sustain museum operations and to be able to reopen Space Camp in April 2021.
SAIC Employees Make and Deliver Personal Protective Equipment to First Responders
SAIC employees in offices across the country are repurposing 3D printers to make personal protective equipment (PPE) to serve the healthcare community. Teams in Charleston, South Carolina; Indianapolis, Indiana; Crane, Indiana; and Cookeville, Tennessee, are partnering with local businesses to print face-shield visors and comfort-designed mask straps for first responders in local hospitals. These teams plan to make weekly PPE deliveries for as long as there is a need.
During the initial months of the pandemic when hand sanitizer was scarce, SAIC also partnered with Yellowhammer Brewing in Huntsville, Alabama, to support its transition to making hand sanitizer in response to COVID-19. All of the hand sanitizer produced was donated to law enforcement, healthcare workers, and others on the frontlines fighting COVID-19.
SAIC Teams Up with Virginia Ready
SAIC is aligning with the Commonwealth of Virginia as a founding partner on the Virginia Ready Initiative (VA Ready), a newly established nonprofit organization formed in response to the economic hardships created by COVID-19, to help ambitious, out-of-work Virginians gain new skills for in-demand jobs in high-growth sectors. With a focus on minority communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, VA Ready is committed to retraining and equipping through various cohort programs in 23 Community Colleges starting in August.
