Is coronavirus lockdown working or worth it?
We are now 42 days into a nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus. But the longer people stay at home, the higher the cost to our lives, our economy and cost in lives lost from other causes than Covid-19. The question everyone is asking is, at what point does the cure become worse than the disease?
Over the weekend, two California doctors, Dan Erickson and Artin Massihi, said the current quarantine approach is not based on science and recommend shelter-in-place order be lifted. After conducting more than 5,000 coronavirus tests they have come to the conclusion that California’s coronavirus death rate is 0.03%. They say the economy ruining lockdowns simply don’t make sense. Their thought provoking video was viewed more than 10 million times before it was taken down on YouTube.
Drs. Dan Erickson and Artin Massihi are not alone. According to a new study published in Wall Street Journal, the authors of the study said that the ongoing lockdowns seem not to have saved many lives in most places. Their data also show that the speed with which officials shuttered the economy appears not to be a factor in Covid deaths.
