Apple unveils iPhone 15 Pro with titanium case and USB-C charging
Apple has just unveiled its latest iPhone series, which includes the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max. These new phones come with a titanium shell, a faster chip, and enhanced video game capabilities. One significant change is the switch to a USB-C port for charging, aligning with EU regulations set to take effect in 2024 to reduce electronic waste.
The iPhone 15 series offers improved camera features, including a snazzier camera and enhanced Portrait mode for selfies. The upscale iPhone 15 Pro models even feature 3D video capabilities and a 5x zoom for precise detail. Additionally, Apple introduced new Apple Watches that allow users to perform actions like ending calls or setting timers with simple finger taps.
Apple also announced that the batteries in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which begin at $799 and $899, respectively, are crafted from 100% recycled cobalt.
The higher-end models in the iPhone 15 series, known as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, come with a price tag of $999 and $1,199, respectively. These models introduce an “action button” to replace the traditional mute switch, and this button can be customized to perform various functions. Additionally, instead of stainless steel, these models feature titanium sidebars.
All the new models come equipped with a 48-megapixel primary camera. The flagship Pro Max model boasts a 5X optical zoom and 3X telephoto capability. With the Pro models, users have the exciting ability to capture “spatial” or three-dimensional videos that can be enjoyed on Apple’s forthcoming Vision Pro headset.
So far, Apple’s recent market share growth has been impressive, even with its premium pricing, especially among US teens. However, challenges from China, such as restrictions on iPhone use by government employees and competition from Huawei’s 5G smartphones, have raised concerns among investors.
Despite these challenges, Apple surprised many by not raising prices for the iPhone 15 series, which will be released on September 22. The company also announced that it would switch to USB-C charging and introduced various camera enhancements. These new iPhones are equipped with powerful A16 and A17 chips, making them suitable for high-end mobile gaming. Apple also emphasized sustainability by using 100% recycled cobalt in the batteries of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus.
In addition to the iPhones, Apple unveiled the Watch Series 9 and the second-generation Watch Ultra, featuring the S9 chip for improved animations and effects. The Ultra 2 comes with a customized watch face and extended battery life. The Series 9 is the company’s first carbon-neutral product, and Apple plans to power all its watch manufacturing with 100% clean energy while eliminating leather from its products, including watch bands.
Finally, Apple released the second-generation AirPods Pro, priced at $249, with enhanced sound quality and improved noise cancellation. These AirPods will also offer more ear tip size options.
