This tech startup just unveils a ‘Reverse microwave’ Juno beverage chiller that can chill bottle of wine, beer, or coffee in under 1 minute
With CES 2020 still ongoing, one of the coolest tech products everyone is talking about is Juno beverage chiller made by a California tech startup called Matrix. The startup was co-founded by CEO Akram Boukai. The Juno device was unveiled at the CES technology conference in Las Vegas this week. Juno is like a Microwave for Cooling. The ‘reverse microwave’ Juno beverage chiller can chill bottle of wine in under 1 minute. You can rapidly chill wine, beer, coffee and more in under 1 minute!
The device uses thermoelectric technology to quickly wick heat away your drink, whether it’s a bottle of wine or a hot mug of coffee. Juno is made to modify the temperature of your drink with thermoelectric cooling (TEC) technology thats “as simple to use as a toaster.” This system is made for a countertop in a kitchen, and aims to “rapidly and precisely chill any beverage.” No more waiting for ice cubes or a refrigerator for you – so long as you’re still OK with waiting just a couple minutes.
Matrix, the firm behind the product, explained: “Juno can do so much more than just chill wine. It can turn your freshly brewed coffee cold, transform your hot tea into iced tea, and cool your favorite beer or soda, right in the can.”
Juno works with a relatively fool-proof system of operation. The user inserts a bottled or canned drink – or pours their drink into a Juno custom container – and presses a single button. The button is one of two, both connected to “preset favorite temperature settings.” After a few minutes of waiting, the drink can be removed, chilled to perfection.
“Juno is the ultimate consumer demonstration of how our cooling technology can radically alter the way we manipulate temperatures,” Akram Boukai said. “But the applications are endless and we’re so excited for the future partnerships and use-cases of MATRIX thermoelectric cooling technology.”
According to the folks at MATRIX, the Juno can chill a 12oz can of beer in 2 minutes from room temperature (72 degrees F /22 degrees C) to its optimal temperature of 39F / 4C. From room temperature, a 750ml bottle of wine can be cooled to its optimal temperature (49F/9C) in 5 minutes.
Juno is not exactly cheap. It comes with a price-tag of $299. However, early buyers can get Juno from the ongoing Matrix crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for just $199. With 27 days left, Matrix has already raised raised $146,435 for its Juno rapid chiller from 460 backers. Users can pre-order the Juno drink cooler starting on January 5, 2020. Shipping is expected to begin in Q3, 2020.
