OpenAI launches ‘Tasks’ to let you schedule reminders and to-do lists within ChatGPT
ChatGPT users have something new to celebrate. The popular chatbot can now handle reminders and to-do lists for you. OpenAI announced on Tuesday the launch of a new feature called ‘Tasks’, available to paid subscribers on Plus, Team, and Pro plans. This addition lets users schedule reminders and manage recurring tasks directly within ChatGPT.
Currently in beta, Tasks signals OpenAI’s step into the virtual assistant space, entering territory dominated by services like Siri and Alexa.

ChatGPT Can Now Handle Reminders and To-Do Lists
With OpenAI Task, you can manage your tasks seamlessly either within chat threads or through the dedicated Tasks section, accessible via the profile menu on the web. This makes it simple to update or cancel any task you’ve created.
Once a task is completed, notifications will keep you informed across web, desktop, and mobile platforms. Keep in mind that there’s a limit of 10 active tasks at a time, ensuring everything stays organized and manageable.
How it Works:
To get started, select the “4o” model from the menu and describe what you’d like it to do and when. This will create your task instantly.
Here are a couple of examples:
- “Send me a daily weather update for Washington, DC every morning at 7 a.m.”
- “Remind me in three months about my dentist appointment at 3 p.m.”
ChatGPT will then send push notifications across the web, macOS desktop, and mobile devices to keep you informed.
Tasks can be managed and customized by selecting the Tasks option in the profile menu on the web. ChatGPT may also suggest tasks based on your conversations, leaving it up to you to decide whether to accept or decline them.
Meanwhile, OpenAI seems to have broader plans for this feature. Bloomberg has reported on “Operator,” an autonomous AI agent expected to debut soon. This tool could allow ChatGPT to handle tasks beyond scheduling, such as controlling computers independently.
Additionally, reverse engineer Tibor Blaho has uncovered hints of something codenamed “Caterpillar.” This potential integration with Tasks might enable ChatGPT to search for information, analyze data, summarize content, browse websites, and access documents. Users would also receive notifications when these tasks are completed.
OpenAI’s latest move could reshape how users approach daily organization and productivity, with Tasks paving the way for smarter and more interactive virtual assistance.
