Blumira launches an easy XDR platform for small businesses following a $15 million Series B fundraise
It’s been three years since we last covered Blumira, an emerging cybersecurity startup that offers detection and response technology to automate security operation workflows and enable customers to identify threats faster and earlier, then respond by blocking or containing their impact.
Blumira emerge from stealth during the pandemic of 2020 with $2.6 million in funding to offer automated threat detection and response to organizations. The round was led by Chicago-based M25, a rising early-stage Midwest-focused VC firm; with additional investment from Array Ventures, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm. Since then, the Blumira team has been busy working behind the scene on their XDR platform to provide enterprise-level security for small to medium businesses (SMBs)
Today, Blumira announced the official launch of its XDR platform to help organizations with lean IT teams consolidate tools, and reduce complexity. The platform, which combines SIEM, and endpoint visibility, also integrates broadly to provide insight across their entire environment and use automation to speed up response.
In conjunction with the launch, the startup also announced that it had raised a $15M Series B financing round led by Ten Eleven Ventures and joined by RPS Ventures, Mercury Fund, HPA, and Duo Security co-founder Jon Oberheide.
“We are excited to announce the launch of our open XDR platform for small and medium-sized businesses alongside our Series B fundraising announcement. Security remains a significant manual lift for small teams. We think there’s a huge opportunity to deliver simplified security for the SMB market, reducing reliance on people to complete manual security tasks to help companies achieve faster time to security,” said Blumira CEO Jim Simpson and former Director of Product Management, Duo Security. “We meet customers where they are by offering a full range of detection and response options, from our Free SIEM to our all-in-one XDR solution, which eliminates redundancies and provides full hybrid coverage.”
Founded in 2018 by Jakub Czyz, Matthew Warner, and Steve Fuller, Blumira’s end-to-end platform offers both automated threat detection and response, enabling organizations of any size to more efficiently defend against cybersecurity threats in near real-time. Unlike traditional security information and event management (SIEM), Blumira’s cloud SIEM automates security operations for faster threat defense, even without a security team.
Blumira’s XDR platform is revolutionizing the way IT teams combat threats, saving them valuable time and effort. One of its standout features, automated host isolation, empowers teams to swiftly contain endpoint threats while they delve deeper into the investigation.
Renowned cybersecurity services firm, 7 Minute Security, led by President Brian Johnson, has praised the power of host isolation in critical incidents. Johnson emphasized that in situations where system administrators may be unavailable, this feature becomes a lifesaver. Severing communication channels until the experts can intervene, it spares IT administrators from sleepless nights and relentless headaches.
With Blumira’s XDR platform, the burden of threat response is alleviated, giving IT teams the upper hand in rapidly securing their systems. By automatically isolating compromised endpoints, the platform acts as a formidable barrier, buying invaluable time for skilled professionals to step in and neutralize potential dangers.
