A new WhiteHouse.gov petition asks President Trump to allow US individuals to use Hydroxychloroquine as a preventative for Covid-19, open the country, and go back to work
Anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine’s popularity exploded online after a small study led by renowned French Professor Didier Raoult showed the drug to be 100% effective in coronavirus patients. Since then, many other doctors have come forward to share success stories of how the drug has saved their patients’ lives. On Thursday, a global survey of 6,227 physicians in 30 countries found hydroxychloroquine to be the ‘most effective therapy’ for coronavirus treatment. Also, results of the first 62 patient randomized clinical trial show hydroxychloroquine helps coronavirus patients improve.
However, none of these stops the mainstream media from downplaying the effectiveness of the drug. The media went as far as mocking and attacking U.S. President Trump after he touted hydroxychloroquine as a ‘game-changer’ on social media. “Trump is giving people false hope of coronavirus cures. It’s all snake oil,” read one Washington Post headline. “Trump is spreading false hope for a virus cure — and that’s not the only damage,” added the Washington Post’s editorial board.
Now, a group of Americans are fighting back. A new whitehouse.gov petition was filed Friday calling on President Donald Trump “to allow US individuals to use Hydroxychloroquine as a preventative for Covid-19, open the country, and go back to work.” The petition was created by B.G. on April 03, 2020. The petition reads:
“Currently, thousands of people all over the world are taking Hydroxychloroquine as a preventative to Covid-19, including India, Spain, and many other countries. US medical workers are taking it as a preventative as well. Every non-contraindicated US person should be able to decide for themselves whether to try this or not, on a voluntary basis.
The President should use the DPA to require US drug manufacturers to make all of the Hydroxychloroquine possible. High-volume facilities should be set up, with Doctors onsite to prescribe, after simple survey for contraindications, and first dose given. Hardest hit areas get first rollout, but scale as fast as possible to allow every US person this opportunity. Create a database allowing treated individuals get back to work.”
As of the time of writing, 70 people have already signed the petition and it’s expected to go live publicly on WhiteHouse.gov website when it reaches 150. Anybody interested in joining the petition can sign the petition by visiting WhiteHouse.gov petition page or simply click on the image above.
