Tesla CEO Elon Musk said “the coronavirus panic is dumb”
To date, at least 3,798 people have died from coronavirus worldwide, including 3,100 deaths in China. There are over 500 people in the U.S with 16 dead. As everyone grapples with the virus, there’s a lot of misinformation about the disease with many on social media spreading false rumors about the virus. The mainstream media is also adding fuel to the fire by spreading fear and exaggerating the impact of the virus.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk thinks he has heard enough. In a post on Twitter, Musk said the following: “The coronavirus panic is dumb.” Elon Musk is not alone in rebuking people and the media, back in February, the World Health Organization (WHO) called the new coronavirus “a massive ‘infodemic,’” referring to ”an overabundance of information—some accurate and some not—that makes it hard for people to find trustworthy sources and reliable guidance when they need it.”

Some of Musk’s followers on Twitter agreed. Santosh Addagulla tweeted the mortality rates of previous viruses. According to Santosh, so far, the mortality rate for coronavirus is 2% compared to at Ebola 25% and Sars 10%.
