Indomobil Group Aims to Bring 50,000 Students Onchain Using Space and Time Technology

Major Indonesian business group Indomobil has unveiled an ambitious initiative to bring more than 50,000 students onchain. Designed to enhance the way in which education is accessed and accredited, the program will target Indonesian students initially and is being implemented with the support of Space Time Foundation, the nonprofit overseeing development of Space and Time’s SXT Chain.
The idea behind the program is to store documented evidence of courses that students have completed onchain using SXT Chain. This will allow students to prove their educational status to potential employers and other educational bodies. The initiative should solve a number of challenges that currently exist in the domestic education market, not least when it comes to correlating qualifications with the student who acquired them.
Taking Education Onchain
The Indomobil program does more than merely place credentials onchain: it also provides a way for Indonesian students to pay for courses. At present, this typically requires paying cash to local schools, which must then convert it and send it on to education providers. The challenge is exacerbated by the high number of unbanked families living in a nation of over 17,000 islands.
Instead, the process can be performed onchain using the native SXT token of Space and Time. Not only will this save fees, but it will save time too, allowing students to start learning instantly. According to Jusak Kertowidjojo, President Director of Indomobil Group, “Our partnership with Space and Time allows us to lead the world in efficient, transparent, and verifiable education. We’re pleased to leverage Space and Time to support a model that reduces friction for students and families while improving how payments are managed across the system.”
Verifiable Credentials for Indonesian Students
The infrastructure behind the program is supplied by Space and Time, which indexes each transaction recorded onchain, enabling payments and education data to be independently accessed. Each interaction, be it a student payment or course completion, is recorded onchain, building up a transparent record of progress.
The program looks like proving a net win for all participants. For Space and Time, it’s yet another use case to add to the long list of industries and sectors their tech stack supports, while it further burnishes Indomobil’s credentials as a forward-thinking company that’s committed to supporting the next generation of graduates. The Indonesian business group, which has multiple publicly traded entities, has a direct incentive to nurture and identify outstanding students who are on the verge of becoming professionals.
For students, meanwhile, verifying their qualifications to employers, educators, and other agencies will become easier. Their families should also benefit in saving money and time when paying for educational courses on behalf of their student offspring. It’s long been recognized that Indonesia’s system for accessing and paying for learning courses is suboptimal, but alternative solutions were in short supply. The Indomobil collaboration with Space and Time shows that there might just be a better way of doing things – one that’s verifiable for the benefit of everyone.
