Agility Robotics raises $400M to scale bipedal robot Digit as humanoid race heats up

Agility Robotics, the company behind the bipedal robot Digit, has raised $400 million in fresh funding, according to an exclusive report from The Information. The round puts a spotlight on just how serious investors are about the future of humanoid robotics. It also places Agility in a strong position as competition ramps up to automate physically demanding tasks across industries.
Humanoid Robotics Startup Agility Raises $400 Million
Founded in 2015 as a spinout from Oregon State University, Agility has made steady progress developing Digit—its human-sized robot built to operate in spaces designed for people. Whether it’s carrying packages, moving bins in a warehouse, or handling repetitive tasks, Digit is built for real-world utility. The new funding follows a string of wins and appears to signal a sharp step up in Agility’s growth, The Information reported.
Back in 2022, the company pulled in $150 million in a Series B round led by DCVC and Playground Global, with Amazon’s Industrial Innovation Fund joining in. By the end of 2024, reports were already circulating that Agility was aiming for another $150 million at a $1 billion valuation. Now, with the figure at $400 million, the surge in interest suggests Digit is proving itself—and fast.
Why the sudden surge in funding?
Humanoid robots are having a moment. Advancements in AI and robotics hardware are opening up new possibilities, and companies like Agility are zeroing in on real labor problems—from warehouse shortages to workplace injuries. Digit has already been put to work in pilot programs, including inside Amazon warehouses. GXO Logistics and Schaeffler Group are also testing it for more industrial use cases.
Agility isn’t alone in pulling in large checks. Figure AI raised $675 million earlier this year, hitting a $2.6 billion valuation, while Apptronik raised $350 million. Physical Intelligence also raised $400 million last November. The money flowing into this sector reflects growing confidence that humanoid robots are closer to going mainstream than many thought just a few years ago.
For Agility, the new capital will likely go toward scaling operations at its “RoboFab” facility, growing its team, and pushing R&D forward. In short: moving faster, hiring more people, and building more robots.
What’s next for Digit?
Digit didn’t arrive overnight. It evolved from Agility’s earlier Cassie model, a research robot that laid the foundation for today’s commercial product. Since then, the company—led by CEO Peggy Johnson, formerly of Microsoft, and CTO Jonathan Hurst—has pushed Digit into practical use cases that go beyond the demo floor.
There’s talk that the robot might eventually handle last-mile delivery or show up in consumer-facing roles, especially given Agility’s earlier work with Ford. But big dreams come with big obstacles. While Digit has an edge with real deployments and an emphasis on working alongside humans, the competition isn’t slowing down. Tesla, Boston Dynamics, and Figure AI are all chasing similar goals, and pricing remains a key issue. With Digit’s cost hovering around $250,000, driving that down will be critical if the robot is going to see wide adoption.
A milestone for Agility—and for the industry
Raising $400 million at a reported $1.75 billion valuation puts Agility in rare territory. It’s not just a funding win—it’s a signal that humanoid robots aren’t a science fiction side project anymore. Investors are treating them as a serious solution to labor challenges that span logistics, manufacturing, and more.
While Agility hasn’t confirmed the round publicly, and details about lead investors remain scarce, longtime backers like DCVC, Playground Global, and Amazon are likely in the mix—possibly joined by newcomers eager to get a foothold.
Agility is moving with purpose, and the market is watching closely. Whether or not Digit becomes the go-to humanoid worker, the fact that it’s already out there doing real jobs is no small thing.
