Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI launches Grok 3 chatbot today: Live demo at 8 PM PT

After weeks of anticipation, Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI is unveiling its latest chatbot, Grok 3. The live demo will take place today at 8 p.m. Pacific Time (11 p.m. Eastern), giving everyone a chance to see what Musk has called the “smartest AI on Earth.” The news comes a month after xAI offered free access to Grok-2 chatbot for all X users.
Musk shared the news over the weekend, stating that Grok 3 had reached the final stage of development and was ready to go live. “Grok 3 has very powerful reasoning capabilities, so in the tests that we’ve done thus far, Grok 3 is outperforming anything that’s been released,” Musk said during a virtual talk at the World Governments Summit in Dubai.
The launch of Grok 3 follows a major shake-up in the AI world, as Chinese startup DeepSeek made headlines after its V3 model outperformed Meta’s Llama 3.1, OpenAI’s GPT-4o, and Alibaba’s Qwen 2.5 on independent benchmarks—delivering top-tier performance at a significantly lower cost.
Elon Musk’s xAI Unveils ‘Scary-Smart’ Grok 3
The new chatbot, which Musk described as “scary-smart,” is expected to give OpenAI’s ChatGPT some serious competition. Its ability to think through problems with a bit more depth could set it apart. According to Musk, Grok 3 has surprised testers by suggesting creative solutions that humans might overlook.
“Grok 3 release with live demo on Monday night at 8pm PT. Smartest AI on Earth,” Musk said a post on X.

Grok 3 has been trained with synthetic data, which Musk says helps it go back over its own work to spot and fix mistakes. This self-correcting behavior might give it an edge over other models that sometimes double down on errors.
You’ll be able to access Grok 3 through Musk’s social platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and possibly through its own app. xAI is pushing to establish itself in the crowded AI market, and Grok 3 is a big part of that strategy.
Behind the scenes, xAI is reportedly trying to raise $10 billion, which would give the company a valuation of about $75 billion. The plan is to pour that money into expanding data center capacity and refining their AI models. Musk has made it clear that xAI isn’t just here to play around. His goal is to build AI tools that focus on truth and transparency, standing apart from competitors like OpenAI and Google.
Late last year, xAI has closed a massive $6 billion Series C funding round. This latest investment includes high-profile names like A16Z, Blackrock, and Fidelity Management & Research Company.
With the demo happening tonight, expectations are sky-high. Will Grok 3 live up to the hype and prove it’s more than just big talk? We’ll find out soon enough.
Musk founded xAI in 2023 and later introduced Grok as a direct challenger to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
