ChatGPT surges to 6th place among world’s top 10 websites in January 2025, surpassing DeepSeek, Google Gemini, and Meta AI

Despite DeepSeek’s attempt to dethrone ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot continues to dominate the generative AI landscape with no signs of slowing down. According to SimilarWeb’s latest report on the “Top 10 Websites in the World for January 2025,” ChatGPT has climbed to the 6th spot globally, surpassing competitors like Google Gemini, Meta AI, and DeepSeek—the Chinese AI chatbot that recently edged out ChatGPT in Apple’s App Store rankings.
According to the January data from SmiliarWeb, ChatGPT now holds a 2.33% share of global web traffic, marking a solid 5.91% month-over-month increase—its highest ranking yet.

Leading the pack is Google.com, dominating with a 29.21% traffic share and a 2.51% growth from the previous month. YouTube.com follows in second place with a 20.40% share, although it saw a slight dip of 0.91% in traffic. Facebook.com sits comfortably in third place with 5.08% of global traffic, despite a minor 0.24% decline.
WhatsApp.com holds the fourth spot with a 3.15% share, showing a modest 0.13% growth. Instagram.com rounds out the top five with a 2.36% share and a notable 3.19% increase in traffic.
ChatGPT’s rise highlights how AI tools are becoming a bigger part of people’s daily digital routines. OpenAI’s CEO reacted to the report, saying, “Man, still a long way to go to run down Google 🩺,” acknowledging the massive lead Google still holds, but also hinting at the platform’s rapid progress.

The rest of the top 10 includes X.com in seventh place with a 1.92% share and a 3.35% month-over-month jump, Yahoo.com in eighth with 1.88% (though it faced a 1.50% drop), Reddit.com in ninth with 1.62% and a 1.12% increase, and Netflix.com in tenth, gaining 2.78% to reach a 1.60% share.
As ChatGPT continues climbing the ranks, it’s clear that AI-driven platforms are reshaping how people interact with technology, solidifying OpenAI’s growing influence in the digital space.
