HP set to receive unconditional EU approval for $14 billion Juniper Networks acquisition
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is expected to receive unconditional EU antitrust approval for its hefty $14 billion acquisition of Juniper Networks, a key player in the networking gear sector, according to sources cited by Reuters.
HPE initially announced the strategic acquisition in January, emphasizing the industry’s accelerated efforts to enhance and innovate amid the burgeoning demand for AI-driven services.
The European Commission, slated to rule on the merger by August 1, has declined to comment on the proceedings. Requests for comments from HPE and Juniper Networks have similarly gone unanswered.
Industry insiders previously indicated that HPE aims to mitigate potential EU competition concerns by emphasizing the market dominance of Juniper’s chief competitor, Cisco. Similarly, HPE and Juniper Networks have not yet provided any statements in response to inquiries.
Insiders previously informed Reuters that HPE plans to highlight the dominant market position of Cisco, Juniper’s primary competitor, to mitigate any potential EU competition concerns.
The acquisition is also under scrutiny by the UK’s antitrust authority, with a verdict expected by August 14, Reuters reported.
Announced in January, HPE’s all-cash deal to acquire Juniper Networks aims to bolster its artificial intelligence capabilities, reflecting the wider industry trend of substantial investments in AI technology. This acquisition is anticipated to double the size of HPE’s networking business, underscoring the high stakes and rapid evolution within the tech sector.
