OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever quits
Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI chief scientist and ChatGPT-4 creator, is officially leaving the company he co-founded nine years ago. Jakub Pachocki, the company’s director of research, will be OpenAI’s new chief scientist, the company said. Pachocki led the development of GPT-4 and OpenAI Five.
As you may all remember, Sutskever played a role in the decision that led to the oustering of the company’s co-founder and CEO, Sam Altman. He later changed his mind saying that “[He] deeply regret [his] participation in the board’s actions.” Sutskever’s employment status had been ambiguous since November of last year.
OpenAI would not be what it is without him,” Altman wrote in a message to the company, which OpenAI posted on its blog. In a post on X, Sutskever said,

“I deeply regret my participation in the board’s actions. I never intended to harm OpenAI. I love everything we’ve built together and I will do everything I can to reunite the company,” Sutskever shared on X.
Ilya Sutskever is a Russian-born computer scientist and a co-founder of OpenAI. Renowned for his role as the creator of ChatGPT-4, Sutskever currently serves as both a board member and the Chief Scientist at OpenAI. His significant contributions to the realm of deep learning have marked his influence in the field.
