Elon Musk warns: “We are sleepwalking our way into World War III”
“We need to stop doing that. It’s unwise, and I think will lead to an immense risk to civilization.”
Tesla CEO and X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk warned that the United States is foolishly “sleepwalking into World War III” and called for an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine. During an X Spaces discussion on Monday, Musk warned that he believes the West is “sleepwalking our way into World War Three,” and “putting civilization itself at stake.”
Musk, known for his candid statements, emphasized the significance of making “avoiding World War 3” a top U.S. policy priority. He stressed the need to prevent a situation where a regional conflict escalates into a global one.
Musk also highlighted that the United States is currently trailing behind both China and Russia in industrial output. He expressed concern that Western leaders’ actions are inadvertently fostering closer ties between these two nations “in an axis of immense power against the west, and laying the groundwork for World War III.”
Musk further noted that “Russia has the raw materials, and China has the industrial capacity,” adding “It’s frankly, a perfect match from a war standpoint. So I think we need to stop doing that. It’s unwise, and I think will lead to an immense risk to civilization.” He added”
“I want to emphasize like that, there’s a civilizational risk – there are tragedies on an individual level, tragedies on a community level, and then there’s a civilizational risk. We just need to make sure that we’re not putting civilization itself at stake, which is World War Three.”

Musk’s concerns primarily revolved around the potential alignment of China and Russia, which he viewed as highly detrimental to the United States. He argued that U.S. policies had inadvertently pushed Russia to seek alliances with Iran and China, given Russia’s rich natural resources and China’s immense industrial capacity.

Musk urged the U.S. to find a pathway to peace in Ukraine and normalize relations with Russia, cautioning against overestimating U.S. influence and having unrealistic expectations regarding the resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
During his discussion on the Spaces platform, Musk expressed his belief that there is no anti-Russian insurgency in Russian-speaking areas of Ukraine that are currently under Russian control. He hinted that the existing lines of control could potentially serve as a ceasefire line or a permanent border.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican presidential candidate, also participated in the Spaces session alongside Elon Musk. Ramaswamy echoed Musk’s concerns about the potential for a global conflict, emphasizing that a World War 3 scenario could lead to a fundamental transformation of the United States as we know it.
