Splinterlands sells out NFT drop starring rapper Waka Flocka Flame in 30 seconds
Just yesterday, we wrote about Splinterlands after the popular NFT-based play-to-earn card game partnered with music giant Warner Music Group (WMG) to give select WMG artists opportunities to create and develop unique, play-to-earn, arcade-style blockchain games. Splinterlands seems to be on the roll with no sign of slowing down.
Today, Splinterlands said it has quickly sold out its unique NFT collection starring rapper Wacka Flocka Flame, in partnership with Loak, the hub for wearable NFTs. The collection took just 30 seconds to completely sell out, highlighting the high demand for this unique style of Splinterlands NFT that has extra utility outside the game.
Thanks to the collaboration, the Waka Flocka NFTs will have two main functions: in addition to being playable summoner cards in Splinterlands, they’ll also function as wearable NFTs within Snapchat’s AR filters. The NFTs come in both regular and “gold” versions. A total of 1000 NFT copies will be released and available for purchase. The first phase will consist of 500 cards being sold in the Splinterlands’ store. 480 regular foil cards and 20 gold foil cards will be sold. During the first phase of the sale, the cards will be sold for 5000 SPS and 500 Vouchers and will have a chance of becoming a gold foil version on purchase.
Now that the first 500 NFTs were sold in the Splinterlands’ store, the last 500 NFTs will be released on Splinterlands’ AtomicHub storefront in order to highlight the collectible fashion portion of the NFT.
The Waka Flocka NFT can be purchased in-game (first sale phase) or be sent from an external wallet to a Splinterlands account (second sale phase). Upon being purchased or transferred in the game, the NFT will appear in the user’s card collection. Depending on whether the user obtains the regular or gold version of the NFT, the NFT will present itself as a regular or gold foil card in Splinterlands. The card will help contribute to the owner’s collection power, which will help contribute to daily SPS airdrops.
The NFT itself, Waka Spiritblade, will be a legendary 3-cost death summoner with the poison ability! This ability will apply to all of your monsters on the field and will provide a 50% chance of them poisoning enemy monsters on hit, dealing additional damage to them at the beginning of each round once the poison ability has been applied. Please note that all of the Waka Flocka NFTs that are sold will be MAX LEVEL.
The NFT can be transferred to WAX wallets. When exported, the NFT will act as a video representing the unique silver or golden headpiece designed for Waka Flocka’s unmistakable style (see an example here). The NFT owner can use the piece as an exclusive filter on Snapchat stories and posts.
For Splinterlands users, the NFT drop was a unique opportunity to add to their cards collection with a limited-edition piece. While NFTs are increasing their popularity, multiple well-known personalities have entered this world both as investors and sponsors, seeking to contribute and be immortalized as an immutable NFT. Waka Flocka is a prolific NFT supporter, previously partnering with projects such as Satoshi Art and Loak itself, the provider of the wearable NFT functionality.
“We are excited to collaborate with Loak and Waka Flocka,” says Dr. Jesse “Aggroed” Reich, Splinterlands co-founder and CEO, “NFTs hold the promise of ‘true digital ownership’ and a big part of that is for in-game assets purchased by players to have value and be sold outside the game. This is just one of the first examples of the promising future that will radically change the value proposition for gamers.”
“Loak has already successfully collaborated with Waka Flocka,” says Jacob Safar “and our partnership with Sprinterland, the #1 most played blockchain game, is a pivotal step to enter the play-to-earn ecosystem, which holds lots of opportunities.”
