Dr. Vladimir Zelenko under surveillance by federal prosecutors: The Hasidic doctor who touted hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus treatment is under scrutiny by Justice Department
Dr. Vladimir “Zev” Zelenko, the Hasidic doctor who touted hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus treatment, is now under surveillance by federal prosecutors according to a report from Washington Post. We’ve been writing about Dr. Zelenko after he first claimed in March that he had successfully treated 350 coronavirus patients with 100% success using Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate.
Since then, Dr. Zelenko has become a controversial figure with many disproving his claims as false due to lack of evidence. Dr. Zelenko is a board-certified family practitioner in New York. He claimed to have been treating coronavirus patients since the beginning of March using a combination of three drug regimen: hydroxychloroquine (an anti-malaria drug), azithromycin, and zinc sulfate.
In a Thursday piece, Washington Post said the Federal prosecutors are now examining the communications of his emails. Dr. Zelenko has had series of interviews with with Jerome Corsi, a conservative commentator best known for saying that former President Barack Obama was born outside the U.S. Dr. Zelenko is listed as a “medical adviser” on Corsi’s website.
According to the Post, the examination of the emails began when Corsi accidentally sent an email to Aaron Zelinsky instead of Zelenko. Aaron Zelinsky was a member of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team, and spent months probing Corsi’s activities during the 2016 presidential election. So far, Corsi has not charged with a crime.
Citing a brief telephone conversation with Dr. Zelencki’s lawyer, Gregory Rigano, Washington Post said Dr. Zelenko had not been contacted by federal prosecutors and that he was not aware of any possible law enforcement interest in Zelenko.
Since March, Dr. Zelenko has become a God-sent for people looking for cure for coronavirus. He is now a frequent speaker on conservative media, from New York Mayor Giuliani to Fox News. In early March, Dr Zelenko was in contact with Rep. Mark Meadows, Trump’s chief of staff, about the results he claims to have obtained from treating hundreds of patients at his family practice in upstate New York with hydroxychloroquine.
Zelenko claims that his treatment regiment — which also includes an antibiotic and a zinc supplement — has resulted in almost no hospitalizations among his outpatient clients. However his claims have not been independently verified by medical officials. Dr. Zeleko is not deterred by the investigation and he remains confident in his treatment regimen, and says he is preparing a peer-reviewed study based on his outpatient use of the drug with over 1,450 people.
In the meantime, Aaron Zelinsky has now been tasked by Justice Department to investigate coronavirus-related crimes in the Maryland U.S. attorney’s office, as part of a directive from U.S. Attorney General William P. Barr to prioritize such cases.
